KATIE WATERS

Katie Waters

Foley Artist

Katie Waters is a Foley Artist who performs and records Foley sound effects and is dedicated to enhancing films, podcasts, and video games with genuine sound. Growing up in Central Illinois, at a young age Katie was interested in funny people and acting anything like herself. Consequently she pursued her passion for character traits and how music worked with images by receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Film from Columbia College Chicago in 2011.

Katie started her journey after taking a Film editing class that exposed her to post production as a career. During college there was a class where she learned about Jack Foley and the process of the niche art form. Since Katie acted in plays when she was younger, she of course was drawn to the performance aspect of Foley. Post graduation, she interned at various post production companies that gave her an extensive view into post production workflows. In 2014, Noisefloor hired Katie as their Studio Manager. In 2016, she was promoted to Producer, crafting budgets, schedules, coordinating team members and managing client communication. While Katie was Producing she would also perform Foley for projects as needed. In 2021, Katie was promoted to Noisefloor’s in-house Foley Artist after they had the opportunity to build a Foley stage.

When she isn’t trying to bring sounds to fruition, Katie records Foley, cues Foley sessions, and edits Foley sound effects. Additionally, she loves storytelling, which allows her to occasionally supervise sound on film projects at Noisefloor. To demonstrate how Foley can benefit the project quality, Katie recommends paying for Foley services and you’ll understand why Foley is better than a sound effects library.

Katie is a member of the MPSE (Motion Picture Sound Editors organization). Their teams cinematic work for Destiny 2 has received nominations for Golden Reel Awards and G.A.N.G. Awards. She participated in a video interview by Encylopaedia Britannica on “How a Foley Artist Creates Sound Effects for Movies and Video Games”. Watch the video here.
